City of Johns Creek - Customer Case Study

The City of John’s Creek, Georgia, needed a proactive, scalable way to collect and maintain comprehensive location data for street signs, signals, poles, and lights without dedicating large staff time to manual GPS surveys. The city partnered with Mapillary, using the Mapillary iOS app and the Mapillary for ArcGIS web app (integrated with ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Open Data) to capture and publish street‑level imagery as open data.

Mapillary’s solution let staff collect photos with a smartphone (automatic 2‑second captures), upload and auto‑process imagery to create navigable street views, and integrate detections into ArcGIS—reducing data‑collection time from months to hours, avoiding costly vehicles and camera rigs, and delivering significant cost savings. Mapillary’s tools also enable frequent updates, support automated traffic‑sign detection, and enriched the Johns Creek OpenData portal so the city can more quickly locate and repair assets and drive local economic use of the data.
