City of Amsterdam - Customer Case Study

The City of Amsterdam captured and released 800,000 panoramic images (a 10 TB dataset) as part of its City Data open data initiative to create map data from street-level imagery. The challenge was turning that raw imagery into structured, reusable map data quickly and at scale, so the city partnered with Mapillary to host and process the dataset.

Within a week of the release the 10 TB dataset was uploaded to Mapillary and processed to extract images containing street signs, street lights, crosswalks, trash cans and more. Mapillary’s processing converted the raw panoramas into usable map features, enabling rapid generation of open map data from 800,000 images and accelerating the City of Amsterdam’s open-data objectives.
