World Central Kitchen - Customer Case Study

World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a non‑profit founded by Chef José Andrés that delivers fresh meals to people affected by disasters and builds resilient, locally led food systems. Faced with the need to respond within hours to multiple, often simultaneous crises around the world, WCK needed a way to coordinate teams, track distributions, and communicate where help was most needed in real time.

WCK built an internal mapping application with Mapbox GL JS and produced digital and print maps with support from Mapbox volunteers, giving teams a shared, up‑to‑date operational picture. The maps helped coordinate responses—such as the Ukraine relief effort—and visualize impact for stakeholders; during the COVID‑19 Chefs for America campaign WCK used interactive maps to report 35+ million meals distributed (5.3 million served in NYC as of April 30, 2020).
