A Mapbox Case Study
The Western Fire Chiefs Association needed a public-facing way to track wildfire incidents across the United States in near real-time so communities could stay informed and safe. The challenge was delivering clear, reliable, and easily accessible location and movement information that performs at scale and remains usable in low-connectivity situations.
Working with the Gartrell Group, WFCA built the Wildland Fire Map using Mapbox GL JS, the Geocoding API and a custom Studio map style. The map ingests US Forest Service IRWIN feeds plus 911 dispatch data from PulsePoint (the first map to integrate dispatch feeds in relevant areas), delivering a fast, design-controlled, low-bandwidth tool that lets the public monitor dynamic wildfires in near real-time.
