Vox - Customer Case Study

Vox set out to answer the simple question “how much snow” in a more engaging, visual way for readers. Their challenge was to present daily snowfall totals across locations in an accessible, story-driven format that could update automatically and combine traditional 2D maps with immersive 3D elements.

Using Mapbox GL JS, Vox built a daily‑updating snowfall map that layers 2D and 3D features and pulls official data from the National Weather Service. The result is an interactive data‑journalism tool that shows accumulated snow by location (for example, San Francisco recorded 0.0 inches from the morning of March 13 to March 14, 2017), with timestamps and source attribution for each update.
