A Mapbox Case Study
The Financial Times commissioned an interactive project — “London’s renting crisis” — to bring their distinctive pink-paper aesthetic and rigorous data journalism online. The challenge was to visualize huge volumes of social and location data (framing it as 100 million users’ worth of social content) in a way that stayed true to the FT’s brand and served a demanding digital audience.
Using Mapbox’s design tools, the FT created custom, on-brand interactive maps and data visualizations that translated print style into the web. The result: visually cohesive, interactive maps that support the FT’s reporting and reach its 250,000+ online subscribers as part of the site’s daily data-driven reading.
