TransitScreen helps commuters plan their day by displaying real-time transit information on lobby screens and in its CityMotion mobile app, but needed highly accurate, low-latency ETAs and a reliable mapping experience to reduce uncertainty and support large displays and mobile users. The challenge was delivering up-to-date travel times and route options quickly enough to power a stateless, scalable backend and a simple, readable UI.

TransitScreen integrated Mapbox Directions API and Mapbox Maps SDK to compare current ETAs with historic data, keep API responses under 200 ms, and enable a stateless architecture. The result: faster, more trustworthy route estimates, fewer errors and engineering overhead, a sleeker mobile UX with turn-by-turn navigation and geocoding, and more time to build new features.
