PayPay, a major cashless payment app in Japan with over 30 million users, needed to improve the mapping experience within its application to help users more easily locate partner stores. To achieve greater flexibility and enhanced visuals, PayPay turned to the vendor Mapbox and implemented the Mapbox Maps SDK for iOS and Android.
Mapbox provided a solution that delivered a cleaner, higher-contrast map design, making shops and landmarks easier to understand at a glance. This improved visual clarity also optimized performance, making the map smoother to navigate. As a result, PayPay users gained an enhanced experience with easier browsing, zooming, and filtering of stores by category or ongoing campaigns.
