Lemontree, a tech-enabled food platform, needed to scale its service to help individuals easily find and access nearby food pantries. Their initial system used straight-line distance, which failed to communicate how practical or easy a journey would be. To provide more accurate and trustworthy recommendations, they turned to Mapbox and its Directions API.

By implementing Mapbox, Lemontree integrated real travel-time calculations and highly customizable, intuitive maps into its SMS, web, and WhatsApp services. This solution from Mapbox allowed users to clearly visualize their options and understand how long it would take to walk or drive to a pantry. As a result, Lemontree scaled from a local helpline to a service supporting thousands of households daily across eleven U.S. regions, guiding over 900,000 families to food resources since 2021.
