The Federal Aviation Administration needed a simple way to help drone pilots understand airspace restrictions and fly safely through its B4UFLY app, built in partnership with Aloft. Using Mapbox Maps SDKs, Geocoding, and Mapbox Tiles, the FAA aimed to improve the app’s map experience, make flight restrictions easier to search, and present location-based guidance more clearly.

Mapbox helped Aloft turn uploaded flight restrictions into searchable, color-coded polygons with custom map styling. As a result, the B4UFLY app delivered a much better user experience, and the iOS app rating improved from 1.5 to 4.2.
