Eyesea collects 130,000 images in 12 months with Mapbox

Eyesea, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to mapping ocean pollution, faced the challenge of building a performant mobile app for volunteers to report maritime debris. They needed a highly detailed and lightweight mapping solution that could function reliably with weak connectivity across many device types worldwide. They turned to Mapbox and its Static Tiles API and Vector Tiles API to meet this need.

Mapbox provided a flexible and scalable platform that integrated seamlessly with Eyesea's custom Flutter application. The solution delivered fast, accurate map rendering, which was essential for users with limited time. As a result, Eyesea successfully deployed its app, collecting 130,000 images in the first 12 months. Mapbox also facilitated a partnership with another customer, Grundo.io, to further develop machine learning technology for identifying pollution.
