Case Study: ANWB achieves unified on-the-road navigation and real-time, hyper-local trip support with Mapbox

ANWB The premiere on-the-go navigation app of the Netherlands

The Royal Dutch Touring Club (ANWB), with 4.5 million members, needed to turn its Onderweg (On-The-Go) app into a true one-stop travel companion for Dutch motorists. While the app already offered trip planning, traffic, fuel and EV station info, and roadside assistance, it lacked integrated navigation—limiting its ability to deliver seamless, on-the-road support.

ANWB implemented the Mapbox Navigation SDK along with Mapbox Directions, Search, Studio, Tiling Service, and Electronic Horizon to add turn-by-turn and free-drive navigation, live travel-time predictions, POI search, custom map styling, synced parking/EV/fuel data, and proactive safety alerts. The result is a unified, hyper-local navigation experience tailored to ANWB’s brand and members, enabling faster map updates and a new standard of location-driven trip support.
