A Mapbox Case Study
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the fourth-busiest airport in the world with 68 million annual passengers, faces a core wayfinding challenge: its single-terminal design aims to get travelers across the airport within 45 minutes without frantic sprints. With heavy foot traffic and frequent gate changes, passengers needed better tools to plan layovers, find shops and restaurants, and reach onward transport on time.
Working with Mapbox, Schiphol implemented detailed indoor maps across web and mobile and deployed self-service kiosks that surface live flight information, searchable shop and dining listings, and transport options. The solution lets travelers plan layovers, navigate gate changes, and locate shopping or transit in advance — improving passenger experience and reducing last-minute rushes.
