Matalan, a British value fashion and homeware retailer with 230 UK stores and two large distribution centres supporting fast-growing ecommerce and click‑and‑collect fulfilment, needed to replace aging warehouse technology to handle rising volumes (ecommerce >25% p.a.). The upgrade had to be completed largely remotely during the COVID‑19 lockdown, with most warehouse staff furloughed, creating a significant implementation challenge.
By upgrading to Manhattan’s cloud WMS and executing a tightly planned remote rollout, Matalan increased DC capacity, sped up store replenishment by splitting pick faces, reduced out‑of‑stocks, shortened delivery cut‑off times and gained better stock visibility and data for faster decisions. The project was delivered on time and under budget, added an extra hour of ecommerce production through reduced downtime, made operations more flexible (including store fulfilment), and proved remote implementations viable for future initiatives.
