A Manhattan Associates Case Study
Stevens Transport, an irregular‑route refrigerated truckload carrier with more than 1,600 tractors and 3,000 trailers operating from 14 service centers across North America, faced escalating fuel costs and a tight labor market. The company needed a real‑time carrier management solution to better control routing, fueling and driver assignment to reduce empty miles and improve driver satisfaction.
Stevens implemented Manhattan Carrier’s Fuel&Route, Driver&Load and Drop&Swap solutions to match drivers to loads in real time, provide optimized door‑to‑door routing with fuel stops, and enable en‑route swapping to handle disruptions. The changes increased equipment utilization by 5%, expanded authorized fuel stops from about 170 to more than 1,000, strengthened driver retention/recruitment, and cut fuel expenses by roughly $500,000 per year (about a 1% reduction in annual fuel spend).
