CalArk, a mid-sized for-hire truckload carrier, faced intense competitive and economic pressures during a recession. Larger companies were vying for its business, forcing CalArk to find ways to maintain profitability and market share with a decreased fleet size. To address this challenge, the company turned to Manhattan Associates and its Manhattan Carrier solution to sharpen its operations.

Manhattan Associates implemented its Manhattan Carrier 2010 release, which featured the En-Route Assignment (ERA) module. This solution merged real-time driver-to-load matching with efficiency evaluation tools to optimize planning and dispatching. As a result, CalArk successfully maintained its pre-recession market share with 25% fewer trucks and held its empty mile ratio at 6%, avoiding the increases seen by competitors and demonstrating significant operational efficiency.
