Argos Direct Strengthens Multi-channel Retail Operation With Supply Chain Solution

Argos Direct, the Home Retail Group’s delivery‑to‑home arm operating three large UK distribution centres and a high‑traffic retail website, faced scalability limits with its custom in‑house warehouse management system as throughput grew. The older system could not cope with increased volume, so Argos needed a new, flexible WMS for its new Faverdale facility and upgrades at its existing sites without disrupting daily operations.

Argos piloted and then deployed Manhattan Associates’ Warehouse Management (with Psion Teklogix RF), using a phased “mirror” migration that ran new and old systems in parallel to ensure smooth data transfer. The rollout completed with no lost working days: efficiencies improved across receiving, put‑away, picking, replenishment and returns; order errors and failed deliveries fell; clerical work and paper use declined; the project reached stability within two weeks and was extended to all sites, giving HQ real‑time inventory and operational visibility.
