Case Study: Global Clothing Retailer Company achieves strengthened security operations and improved detection and response with Mandiant

A Mandiant Case Study

Preview of the Global Clothing Retailer Company Case Study

International Retailer Bolsters Security Operations

Global Clothing Retailer Company, a former cyber breach victim that lost customer personal data, engaged Mandiant for a Mandiant Red Team Assessment to objectively evaluate its prevention, detection and response capabilities around critical assets such as customer credentials, employee data, payment information and POS systems.

Over an eight‑week engagement Mandiant simulated a full attack lifecycle—using recon‑based phishing, domain fronting, obfuscated payloads, Kerberoasting, credential dumping, WMI/PowerShell lateral movement and 2‑factor bypasses—to test the retailer’s controls. The assessment exposed significant gaps (including the dumping of 30+ passwords and prolonged lateral movement), produced tactical and strategic recommendations, and drove the Global Clothing Retailer Company to deploy EDR and egress monitoring, augment its IR plan with prescriptive playbooks, reduce overall incident response time, secure additional security budget and commit to periodic maturity evaluations.
