ESASCCO's role in poverty reduction in Eswatini

The Eswatini Association of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (ESASCCO) is the national apex body for SACCOs in Eswatini, founded in 1988 to boost economic empowerment for largely rural and vulnerable members. Facing low financial inclusion, manual paper-based processes and limited connectivity, ESASCCO partnered with Mambu and in 2018 moved to Mambu’s cloud-native, composable platform to digitise operations and broaden access to modern financial services.

Using Mambu’s API-enabled platform (deployed on AWS), ESASCCO configured flexible loan and savings products for 10+ SACCOs, integrated with regional banks, Mastercard, MTN and WhatsApp, and automated reporting, mass payments and remote workflows. Mambu’s solution delivered measurable impact—unlocking services for 24,000+ previously unbanked members, reducing operating costs, improving security and traceability through data encryption, enabling 24/7 account access and disaster-resilient data protection, and automating regulatory reporting.
