School district stays clear of ransomware

Bloomsburg Area School District, a small Pennsylvania district serving 1,600 students and supported by a four-person IT team, suffered a ransomware incident that disrupted shared files and required hours of recovery. Faced with limited staff time and the need to keep classrooms online, the district’s primary challenge was preventing ransomware from returning and reducing the operational burden of cleaning and reimaging machines.

The district deployed Malwarebytes Endpoint Security to about 800 endpoints, using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager for quick, background installation during summer maintenance. Since deployment, ransomware has not returned, malware incidents have dropped dramatically, reimaging needs and staff remediation time have been significantly reduced, and the IT team receives proactive alerts so they can focus on other priorities.
