A Malwarebytes Case Study
East Irondequoit Central School District, serving about 3,200 students across six schools, had just completed a large digital conversion—equipping students and staff with 3,400 devices—when the Emotet Trojan slipped past its incumbent endpoint security on the sixth day of school and spread to roughly 1,400 machines within 24 hours.
The IT team deployed Malwarebytes (initially the free incident response tool, then Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection and Response), using its cloud dashboard and automated remediation to isolate infected endpoints, identify reinfections (root cause: a compromised admin password), and disinfect systems. The district removed Emotet in 20 days without taking the network offline and has since adopted continuous monitoring and a modern, layered endpoint security approach.
