A MakerBot Case Study
Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HsKA), a prestigious engineering university, sought to enrich its additive design and manufacturing courses with professional-grade 3D printing capabilities to prepare students for Industry 4.0. The challenge was to provide students with access to industrial-quality 3D printing equipment that could produce dimensionally accurate prototypes for research, development, and thesis projects.
MakerBot addressed this need by providing the university with its METHOD X 3D printer. The solution's heated chamber and rigid steel frame drastically reduced part distortion, yielding the tight tolerances and high level of accuracy required for 80% of the university's projects. Students and faculty provided overwhelmingly positive feedback, noting the METHOD X was a perfect entry-level industrial tool that was reliable and easy to use, even for those new to the technology. MakerBot’s technology successfully equipped students with critical problem-solving skills and hands-on experience with equipment used in modern design and manufacturing companies.
