A MakerBot Case Study
Canary, a New York City home‑security startup, needed a comprehensive rapid‑prototyping solution to accelerate iterative design and bring products to market faster. To address this, Canary adopted MakerBot’s connected desktop 3D printing ecosystem — two MakerBot Replicator+ printers, a MakerBot Replicator Mini+, the Slate Gray Tough PLA Filament Bundle, plus MakerBot Print software and the MakerBot Mobile app — to enable fast, on‑desk prototyping and closer collaboration between designers and engineers.
MakerBot’s solution let Canary iterate quickly, perform fit and functional testing, and develop accessories and products like the Canary Flex more cheaply and rapidly than using industrial printers or service bureaus. With cloud‑enabled printing and printers on designers’ desks, Canary saw clear speed and quality improvements, produced Tough PLA fixtures that supported a 50,000‑cycle button reliability test, reduced prototyping costs and cycle time, and accelerated product decisions and time to market.
