3d Printing in a Hybrid Classroom With Makerbot Cloudprint

Boca Raton Community High School science teacher Jon Benskin faced the challenge of keeping hands-on STEM learning alive during hybrid and remote instruction, where access to classroom equipment was limited. To bridge that gap he turned to MakerBot, using MakerBot CloudPrint (and pairing it with the Method X printer) so students could design and participate in 3D-printing projects from any location.

Using MakerBot CloudPrint, remote and in-person students collaborated on a project—10 groups with one in-person and one virtual student each—designing coronavirus protein models in CAD, submitting files via the cloud, and having prints queued and produced on the Method X. MakerBot’s solution streamlined printing across devices, enabled remote submission and pickup, supported a range of materials (PLA to carbon fiber), kept remote students engaged, saved instructor time, and delivered tangible learning outcomes for all students.
