Missouri Government fast-tracks PPE ordering in weeks with Make

The Missouri government faced a critical challenge at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic: its legacy ordering system for protective personal equipment (PPE) was slow and manual, relying on spreadsheets and email. With supply chains broken and existing PPE stocks inadequate or expired, the state needed a rapid solution to manage requests and distribution. The state’s Office of Administration, IT Division, implemented a new workflow using readily available tools, including the automation platform Make, to replace the outdated process.

The solution designed with Make, alongside Esri's Survey123 and Crowdsource Manager, automated the entire request and fulfillment process. It used a Make webhook to instantly notify state teams of new submissions and confirm receipt to requesters. This new system enabled rapid, centralized decision-making, automated notifications to reduce human error, and provided real-time tracking of stock and shipments for state leadership. The result was a significantly faster and more reliable process for providing PPE, which has since proven to be a durable and replicable solution for other state organizations.
