A Mainspring Energy Case Study

Preview of the The Kroger Co. Case Study

Saving energy cost and advancing sustainability for the nation’s largest traditional grocery company

The Kroger Co., the nation's largest traditional grocery company, sought new ways to manage utility price volatility and advance its sustainability goals. They engaged Mainspring Energy to implement an innovative, onsite power solution that could reduce costs and be easily deployed and maintained at the store level.

Mainspring Energy implemented its Linear Generator technology at Kroger stores, with each unit providing 230 kW of power. The solution was financed through an Energy Service Agreement and delivered immediate cost savings. Mainspring Energy's technology provided The Kroger Co. with greater predictability in energy costs, a lower carbon footprint, and savings amounting to an estimated $1 million per store over the product lifecycle, leading to a wider deployment across multiple locations.
