A Maine Pointe Case Study
The customer, one of the world's largest fertilizer companies, faced the challenge of needing to significantly increase outbound shipping volume from its mine to win a share of the global market, all without making capital expenditures. They engaged the vendor, Maine Pointe, to analyze and optimize their rail logistics performance, as ineffective communication with rail providers was a major obstacle.
Maine Pointe implemented a solution that introduced 170 railcar unit trains and shifted from manifest shipping to a pre-arranged, direct service. This re-designed and optimized rail network, developed with carrier buy-in, allowed the client to regain control of its logistics. As a result, the company doubled its outbound shipping volume with no CAPEX and successfully captured a share of a multimillion-dollar global market.
