How Lausanne moved to e-government with Magnolia

The City of Lausanne, Switzerland’s fourth-largest city, needed to align with the national eGovernment strategy by giving citizens and businesses uninterrupted online access to administrative services to reduce bureaucracy and costs. Lausanne sought an open, integrative platform to streamline processes, speed decision-making and improve transparency for residents and the business community.

Using Magnolia as the integration centerpiece, Lausanne launched myLausanne — a virtual services portal that connects SAP, Alfresco, OpenAM and custom business logic to let users view bills, monitor energy consumption and change addresses online. Within two months the portal had 2,500+ registrations (25% above expectations), eased call-center demand, provided 24/7 secure access, and now supports peaks of ~9,000 hourly views and ~300,000 monthly page views across 8,300 pages managed by 70 editors.
