A Magnet Forensics Case Study
Comal County, a rapidly growing county in Texas, faced challenges in digital forensics due to password-protected and encrypted smartphones, new apps, and the time-consuming manual correlation of evidence. Their computer forensics examiners needed a more effective way to find and analyze hard-to-find data from a wide variety of cases. They turned to Magnet Forensics and implemented Magnet AXIOM as a secondary tool to address these issues.
Magnet AXIOM provided a solution by easily ingesting extractions from other tools, allowing examiners to find more evidence from deleted or unallocated space that other tools missed. It specifically carved deleted, encoded, or encrypted data and rebuilt chat histories from popular apps into an easy-to-understand format for prosecutors and juries. The software's Connections feature also saved time by automatically and visually correlating artifacts across data sources to establish timelines and demonstrate intent, leading to smoother investigations.
