A Magnet Forensics Case Study

Preview of the Christiansburg Police Department Case Study

Christiansburg Police Department - Customer Case Study

The Christiansburg Police Department (CPD) faced challenges in mobile forensics, especially in Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) cases, where smartphones are a primary evidence source. Their difficulties included extracting data from unsupported apps, recovering deleted information, and dealing with device drivers for older phones. They turned to vendor Magnet Forensics and its product, Magnet AXIOM, for a solution.

Magnet Forensics implemented Magnet AXIOM, which enabled CPD examiners to recover crucial deleted evidence that was unavailable with other tools. The solution also provided reliable technical support for challenges like encrypted devices and new app artifacts. As a result, the CPD extended its use of AXIOM beyond ICAC cases to successfully recover evidence from in-car cameras for incriminating footage and obtain text messages in drug investigations, significantly aiding their investigative capabilities.
