A Magic Software Case Study
The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) for Washington provides statewide information systems for courts, including juvenile departments, recording confidential youth records used by probation officers, judges, police and other approved professionals. AOC was managing four separate legacy applications (JIS, SCOMIS, JUVIS and CAPS), which caused duplicate data entry, fragmented case views and limited secure, browser-based access for roughly 800 users — prompting a need for an integrated, easy-to-manage web solution.
Working with Magic Software, AOC built the web-based Juvenile and Corrections System (JCS), migrated historical data and integrated JCS with existing mainframe and web systems to provide a single, linked view of referrals and Superior Court cases. In pilot use JCS cut detention booking time from about one hour to 20 minutes, reduced redundant entry, improved access to orders and warrants, sped development of new screens and reports from weeks to days, and enabled a planned statewide rollout across all juvenile courts.
