A Mag+ Case Study
New York Magazine faced the challenge of translating its print-ready InDesign layouts and daily web content into a polished tablet experience that worked on iOS and Android while offering a custom, engaging interface. To do this, the publisher partnered with mag+ and its mag+ Software Development Kit (SDK) to reformat magazine content for the iPad and integrate daily site updates alongside the weekly issue.
mag+ delivered a solution using its SDK and tools to move InDesign content to tablet, enable custom interactions and distribution, and support a “window shade” design that lets readers toggle between the weekly magazine and daily content from nymag.com properties like Vulture, The Cut, and Grub Street. The app launched April 1, 2013 on iOS (and later Android), produced an excellent UI and app experience, and has maintained a presence on mobile platforms for more than half a decade—demonstrating mag+’s ability to create durable, customizable digital publishing solutions.
