Dorset Wildlife Trust welcomes thousands to The Lookout with Mad River

Mad River was engaged by Dorset Wildlife Trust to transform The Lookout, a new building on Brownsea Island, into an inclusive and accessible visitor experience. The challenge was to create compelling conservation interpretation that would inspire and educate thousands of visitors about the island's unique habitats and wildlife, setting the stage for their entire visit.

The solution implemented by Mad River was a sensory journey guided by the theme of letting 'nature lead the way'. This included immersive elements like a multilayered landscape wall, an illuminated sculptural reedbed, and playful interventions with wildlife motifs to guide visitor flow. Every design detail echoed the sustainable ethos of the building. Mad River's work successfully created an inspiring introduction to the island, leaving visitors motivated to explore Brownsea's hidden world further.
