A Macrosoft Case Study
Trace Environmental Systems, Inc., a provider of stack monitoring solutions, faced a significant challenge as its core desktop applications were built on unsupported technologies, Visual FoxPro and Visual Basic, creating security risks and limiting accessibility. The company needed to modernize these mission-critical tools into a secure, web-based solution while maintaining its proprietary algorithms and data, but skilled FoxPro developers were difficult and costly to find, putting the product's future in jeopardy.
Macrosoft implemented a two-phased migration to the .NET platform, converting the desktop applications into a secure, web-based solution. The new application provided real-time data access from any browser and leveraged the existing FoxPro database through a client-provided DLL. This strategic modernization allowed Trace Environmental to centrally manage the application, drastically reducing support calls associated with desktop installations. The project ensured the long-term viability of the product using modern, supportable technologies like ASP.NET and VB.NET.
