Case Study: Specdrums achieves Kickstarter success and scalable PCB production with MacroFab

A MacroFab Case Study

Preview of the Specdrums Case Study

Moving from Electronic Prototyping to Kickstarter Success

Specdrums, maker of a ring that turns colors into sounds to make music more accessible, needed an affordable, reliable way to move from hand-soldered prototypes to production-ready PCBs. After researching options, founder Steven turned to MacroFab and used the MacroFab platform and PCB assembly services to iterate through designs and avoid manual soldering as the product matured.

MacroFab provided end-to-end prototyping and assembly support, enabling Specdrums to complete about 10 prototype runs, finalize their BOM, and smoothly scale into a Kickstarter-backed production run and ongoing low-mix, high-volume manufacturing. By working with MacroFab’s Sales and Support teams, Specdrums shipped 500 rings as of May 2018 and continued prototyping new products like a drumstick, accelerating time to market and ensuring consistent production quality.
