Case Study: Carolina Precision Manufacturing boosts capacity by $1.5M with MachineMetrics

A MachineMetrics Case Study

Preview of the Carolina Precision Manufacturing Case Study

How CPM saved $1.5 million in their first year of machine monitoring

Carolina Precision Manufacturing (CPM), a contract manufacturer of small-diameter, close-tolerance CNC Swiss turned parts, was struggling with hidden downtime, inefficient startup procedures, and a slow, error-prone manual process for collecting utilization data. President Gary Bruner needed a better way to see machine status in real time and understand what was causing production delays. MachineMetrics was brought in as a machine monitoring solution to give CPM live visibility into production.

MachineMetrics was installed across CPM’s 36 CNC lathes, with dashboards on shop-floor TVs and tablets at each machine to track goals, downtime, and quality in real time. The results were significant: CPM added an average of 688 operating hours per machine, increased machine utilization by 20%, saved 2 hours per day in administrative work, and saw an ROI in just 11 days. MachineMetrics also helped CPM increase capacity by $1.5 million in 2016 without adding machines.
