U.S. Department of State reduces near collisions with the Lytx Driver Safety Program

The U.S. Department of State faced deadly, chaotic driving conditions at overseas posts that contributed to hundreds of collisions and many fatalities. To change driver behavior and reduce crash risk, the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations partnered with Lytx to pilot the DriveCam event-data recorder at several high‑risk embassies.

Installing DriveCam devices gave supervisors video, audio and event data to identify unsafe behaviors and deliver targeted coaching. In the first 18 months—more than 1,102,483 miles—there were zero fatalities or serious preventable crashes, a 62% drop in near collisions, a 54% decrease in events, a 49% reduction in event severity and a 71% increase in seat-belt use, prompting wider rollout across additional posts.
