Boosting Employee Happiness with Workforce Mental Health Benefits

Zoom, the San Jose–based video communications company with about 6,800 employees, needed a stronger mental health benefit to sustain its “work happy” culture. Its prior EAP provided only five phone counseling sessions and left employees to find therapists themselves, causing delays of two to three weeks and very low utilization. To solve this, Zoom partnered with Lyra and launched Lyra’s comprehensive mental health solution for its global workforce.

Lyra implemented a streamlined intake (brief survey) that quickly connects employees to coaches or therapists, with an average first-appointment wait of 2 days versus 25 days nationally. The program delivered 7.5x higher engagement than traditional EAPs and saw 8 in 10 Zoom employees reliably improve or recover from mental health conditions (compared with 4 in 10 nationally). Lyra also provided evidence-based clinicians, robust reporting, an initial 16 sessions/year benefit, and integration plans with Zoom’s medical plan, boosting employee happiness, productivity, and recruiting appeal.
