Rhapsody improves management of cancer care alerts

Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, a large NHS trust serving a population of 540,000 across multiple hospital and community sites, needed a better way for its many IT systems to exchange information. To improve patient care and the clinician experience, the Trust turned to Lyniate’s Rhapsody integration engine to connect systems and enable real-time alerts, particularly for cancer care and emergency admissions.

Lyniate deployed Rhapsody rapidly, using HL7-based interfaces and simple rules to send email and text alerts to the right clinical teams when key patient events occurred. The solution was integrated with multiple systems across the Trust without consultancy support, and it delivered strong results: 1,023 alerts were triggered, length of stay fell from 20 days to 4 days, and more than 3,700 bed days were released, generating savings of over £900,000.
