Enabling Predictive Maintenance in the Laboratory

Global Pharmaceutical Manufacturer, a leading global pharmaceutical company, needed a reliable way to ensure its dissolution machines were properly calibrated during medicine testing. Because the machines were monitored manually, the process was prone to human error and, if a calibration issue was discovered later, previous experiments had to be checked by hand, creating costly delays. Luxoft was brought in to help with a computer vision-based predictive maintenance approach for the laboratory.

Luxoft implemented an AI, deep learning, and computer vision solution using a visual sensor and dashboard to track wobbling and rotation speed frame by frame and automatically detect deviations from the correct machine state. The result was a semi-automated system that reduced hours of manual inspection, eliminated much of the human error, and alerted staff when maintenance was needed. Luxoft also delivered a scalable solution that can be expanded with additional smart cameras as needed.
