Bird & Bird, an international law firm with over 1,200 lawyers across 29 offices, faced a high‑volume M&A due diligence challenge: review employment contracts for nearly 20,000 employees, totalling about 200,000 documents, on a very tight timeline. Previously the firm relied on sampling around 10% of documents, which increased risk and reduced company valuation, so Bird & Bird turned to Luminance to gain comprehensive insight into the full dataroom.

Using Luminance’s AI platform, Bird & Bird uploaded 80 GB (over a million pages) and were up and running within hours; the technology immediately surfaced anomalies and “unknown unknowns” in German and other documents. Luminance analysed 200,000 documents, boosted review rates from about 79 to 3,600 documents per hour, eliminated risky sampling, and delivered results fast enough that the client requested further analysis and Bird & Bird rolled out Luminance across its global offices.
