Municipalities in Denmark delivers digital voting across 32 municipalities with Lumi, casting 156,187 votes

The municipalities in Denmark faced the challenge of running accessible Elder Council elections for voters aged 60 and over while managing significant operational complexity and local resource pressures. This was heightened in 2025 when 32 municipalities chose to hold these elections concurrently with national ones, requiring coordination across multiple voting processes, numerous election configurations, and the need to build voter confidence in new technology. They turned to vendor Lumi and its Electa election platform for a solution.

Lumi implemented a multi-channel voting solution using its Electa platform, offering remote online voting via national digital ID, in-person iPad kiosks, and traditional paper ballots. This approach provided genuine choice and accessibility for voters. The vendor managed the entire process, from candidate registration to configuring and delivering 292 voting kiosks. The results were successful, with 156,187 total votes cast across the 32 municipalities. Over 90% of votes were cast digitally, with 80% of all ballots submitted remotely. The solution received positive voter feedback and provided valuable operational insights for future elections.
