Developing a reliable and high-quality OTT sport broadcast service to an extremely tight timescale

Okko, one of Russia’s largest VoD providers, needed to launch Okko Sport’s first pure OTT sports broadcasting service in an extremely short timeframe. In just a few months, the company had to build the full delivery chain from stadium signal to end-user devices across Smart TV, web, iOS, Android, Apple TV, PS4, and Xbox, while ensuring a reliable, high-quality experience for football fans during peak traffic.

Lumen provided the broadcast and delivery solution, using Vyvx broadcast fibre for UHD-quality connectivity from Premier League Productions in London to Okko Sport’s Moscow studio, plus CDN Mesh Delivery to support streaming across the Russian market. The solution was implemented on time for the first EPL broadcast on 9 August 2019, and Okko reported improved reliability, scalability from six to ten concurrent lines, and a more secure, weather-independent service.
