DollarDays Cashes In After Move to Solr

DollarDays is an online wholesaler offering over 50,000 products to small retailers and non-profits. As the business and catalog grew, their initial SQL-based search and hosted/endeca solutions became costly, slow to update, and storage-intensive—making it hard to keep search results accurate and to promote key items during frequent inventory changes.

They moved to Solr (with commercial support available), which was quick to deploy and easy to tweak. Solr enabled real-time indexing without downtime, updates 2–5× faster and full re-indexing in about half the time, dramatically reduced index storage, improved relevance with faceting and boosting for promotions, and cut customer search complaints — all contributing to lower TCO and better scalability.
