Crate & Barrel, a national home-furnishings retailer with 100 stores, four ecommerce sites and about 100M annual website visits, struggled to help customers find products among thousands of SKUs. Its site search often returned irrelevant or no results, forcing merchandisers into time-consuming manual fixes and degrading the online shopping experience.

Crate & Barrel deployed Lucidworks on Google Cloud—using ML, personalization, Predictive Merchandiser, typeahead and query recommendations with GKE-based hosting—to improve relevancy while keeping merchandisers in control for seasonal and promotional boosts. The new search went live in three months and delivered clearer results for niche terms (e.g., “magnet board,” “bouclé”), higher conversion rates, increased add-to-carts and order value, and a foundation for expanded omnichannel features.
