Saint Mary’s College, a women’s college with about 1,600 students, needed an accessible diagramming solution for its Mathematics and Computer Science department. The team wanted a better way to support group collaboration and create complex information systems diagrams while staying within budget, and they were looking for a Visio alternative. Lucid Software’s Lucidchart stood out as an intuitive option that could meet those needs.

Lucid Software implemented Lucidchart for education, giving students access to the shape libraries and notation needed for ERDs, UML diagrams, data flow diagrams, and more. The platform enabled real-time collaboration in and out of the classroom, reduced versioning issues, and let the professor provide comments directly in documents as projects developed. As a result, students used Lucidchart nearly every day in the capstone course, spent less time on logistics, and produced stronger work with more analysis and design iterations.
