Pet Supermarket Keeps Growth on Track Without Adding Staff or Expanding Its DC

Pet Supermarket, a pet retailer with 120 stores, faced significant challenges in its Sunrise, Florida distribution center due to growth. Their paper-based picking process was inefficient, created excessive clerical work, and limited their ability to handle increased shipping volumes without adding staff or facing overtime. They partnered with vendor Lucas Systems to implement a voice-directed picking solution powered by their Jennifer orchestration engine to overcome these hurdles.

Lucas Systems implemented its voice technology, which provided accurate speech recognition for a diverse workforce and included a management console for real-time oversight. The solution was rolled out smoothly and resulted in a one-third increase in daily pieces picked with the same number of workers, eliminating the need for overtime at higher volumes. The implementation also freed up clerical staff, reduced training time for new hires, and provided managers with the real-time data needed to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
