How SRF used 4G live video signals and a decentralized signal mixing setup for broadcasting on Facebook Live

Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen (SRF), together with technical partner tpc, needed a cost-effective, decentralized way to produce unique live social content from a remote mountain event where only 4G connectivity and limited on-site infrastructure were available. To ingest and pre-select multiple mobile and broadcast feeds for a live Facebook stream of a backward-skiing world record, SRF turned to LTN Global and its LTN Live Video Cloud.

LTN Global’s LTN Live Video Cloud collected five iPhone feeds plus a 4G-encoded broadcast camera, routed pre-selected signals to Telestream Wirecast for cloud-based mixing, and sent the final program to SRF’s Zurich hub for distribution to Facebook Live. The approach removed on-site input limits, enabled off-site recording and instant highlights, and produced a viral broadcast picked up by CNN Sports, Eurosports, ZDF, RTL, Twitter and YouTube — demonstrating scalable, flexible decentralized production with broad measurable reach.
