High resilient transmissions with uplink power control and site diversity switching

Leading Direct-To-Home (DTH) Provider operated uplinks from tropical/subtropical sites where frequent heavy rain and equipment maintenance threatened continuous satellite distribution and advertiser revenue. The customer needed automated, intelligence-driven uplink power control and site diversity switching to detect rain fade, manage EIRP/AUPC per transponder, and transfer services between sites with minimal operator intervention. LTN Global provided its LTN M&C intelligent control solution (Automatic Uplink Power Control and site diversity switching) to address these requirements.

LTN Global implemented radiometer-based attenuation monitoring with beacon backups, AUPC/EIRP control per uplink chain, a streamlined at-a-glance UI, and a fast switching sequence that mutes/unmutes up‑converters rather than relying on slow waveguide switches. The result: service recovery from uplink failures within 1 second, RF interruptions limited to about 5–10 milliseconds (occasional audio pop only), the ability to perform a dozen+ site switches per day during heavy rain, and design changes that removed the need for some local hardware redundancy—yielding capital savings on the order of $500,000 and potential uplink chain reductions (~15%). LTN Global’s solution therefore improved resilience, reduced viewer impact, and lowered costs.
