Honeywell approached Logical Systems Inc (LSI) with a challenge to upgrade the flame safeguards for their multi-zone oven. Their existing 120V system lacked adequate diagnostics and created an arc flash hazard. They needed LSI to design a new, fully integrated solution that would provide improved diagnostics, enhance safety by removing the arc flash risk, and maintain their required Safety Integrity Level (SIL) rating.

LSI designed and implemented a custom flame safe panel (FSP) utilizing a Siemens Safety PLC and Siemens ET 200SP remote I/O. This architecture allowed the I/O to be mounted closer to the gas train, which significantly reduced installation costs. The new system provided vastly improved diagnostic capabilities for easier troubleshooting, increased safety with 24V DC components and FM-approved parts, and maintained the necessary SIL 2/3 safety level. The solution from LSI resulted in reduced downtime and a much more efficient facility for Honeywell.
